MotorcoachNav is a driving aid from My Motorcoach Tools. This policy explains what the app does with your information. In short: almost everything stays on your iPhone.
The short version
- No account, no sign-up, and no name or email needed to use the app.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers.
- Your coaches, settings and drive log stay on your iPhone. We don't run a server that receives them.
- To fetch the crossings and clearances around you, the app asks public map data services for the area you're in.
Your location
MotorcoachNav uses your iPhone's location to warn you about railroad crossings and low clearances on the road ahead, and to plan trips from where you are. It keeps using location while another app is on screen or the phone is locked, so the alerts keep working while you drive. You can turn location off for the app at any time in the iPhone's Settings; the alerts stop working without it.
Your exact position is used on the phone and isn't sent to us. The app doesn't keep a record of where you've been, apart from the drive log described below.
Data the app downloads
To know what's ahead, the app downloads map data for the area around the coach, and along a route you've planned. Each of these requests names an area of the map, roughly 10 to 20 miles across, not your exact position. Like any website you visit, the service that answers can see the area asked for and your internet address. The services are:
- The U.S. Department of Transportation's public map data, hosted by Esri (ArcGIS), for railroad crossings, rail lines and bridges.
- Public OpenStreetMap servers, for height limits and bridge outlines.
- GitHub, for the weekly nationwide clearance file. This download doesn't include any location.
We don't control these services, and their own privacy policies apply to them.
Trip search and routes
Destination search and routes on the Trip tab come from Apple Maps. What you type and the start and end of your trip are sent to Apple to get results, as with any app that uses Apple Maps. Apple's privacy policy applies to that data.
What's stored on your iPhone
- The coaches you add, with their names, sizes and the height you entered.
- Your settings, such as the height safety margin and Wi-Fi-only updates.
- When you accepted the Terms of Use, and which version.
- Downloaded crossings and clearances, so alerts keep working where there's no signal.
- The drive log, which lists the alerts you heard and the crossings and low structures you passed, with times and places.
Deleting the app deletes all of this.
Sharing the drive log
The drive log leaves your iPhone only if you share it yourself, for example by email or text from the Share button. It includes times and places from your drive, so share it only with people you trust with that.
Subscriptions
When subscriptions start, they'll be handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card or Apple Account details. Apple tells us only what's needed to unlock the app, such as whether a subscription is active.
If you write to us, we use your email address and what you send only to answer you. We don't add you to a mailing list unless you ask.
Children
MotorcoachNav is made for professional coach drivers. It isn't meant for children, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling your information differently, we'll update this page and change the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
